Wrightsville Beach & Topsail Beach Fishing Report

Fishing Report 3/21/2013

Fished Inshore Topsail Beach and Wrightsville Beach Yesterday 3/21/2013 in very windy conditions.  A front pushed through the night before dropping the air temp into the 30’s followed by a strong 25kt steady wind all day on the water with gusts over 30kts.  The water temp at both Wrightsville Beach, Figure Eight Island and Topsail Beach is still on the fall reading 53.5 degrees… Unseasonably Cold for this time in March as the water should be around 58 degrees.   With A LOT of hard work, patience and the right baits we did manage a few fish!  The bait observed last week has pushed off as there was NO BAIT to speak of in the Inshore Waters (which currently has a visibility of 10+ feet).   The fish were holding in the Deep Holes and pools of the backwaters and were very few in numbers.  Fingers Crossed the water temps will steadily rise this next week bringing the bait fish back to the Inland Waters in Numbers!   Once the baitfish have established themselves in the Inlets, Creeks and Backwaters we will see a steady increase in the numbers of our spring gamefish (Flounder, Drum & Trout) going through April and building through May.

Hope to see you on the water!

Capt. Trev
